Hollydyke House is a 6 acre garden which features many mature trees and shrubs, conifers, ponds and a vegetable garden. There are several herbaceous borders containing mostly perennials, and many dahlias to be lifted for winter. Sandra has had trainees herself in the past. There are 2 greenhouses and a polytunnel that members can work in.
Dahlias should not be lifted until they have had at least one frost. Day one will be cutting back and lifting the Dahlias ready to dry them off. Day 2 will be checking the drying process, labelling and getting the Dahlias ready to rest for the winter. The dates for this event are;
Friday 1st November 11-3pm
Friday 22nd November 11-3pm
Sandra will demonstrate different methods and ways of storing Dahlias as well as some experimental ones. She will also talk about bringing them out the following Spring.
Please bring your own secateurs as well as wet weather clothes and shoes. Most of the work will be done in the poly tunnel and greenhouses though. Tea and coffee will be provided but please bring your own lunch.
The cost for both sessions is £25, the event is open to members only.
