Laskey Farm is a 1.5 acre garden developed from scratch by Wendy Platt of Secateur Sisters garden design business. Previously a teacher, Wendy has made the career change into horticulture and garden design. Together with Howard she has designed and made a garden comprising ‘rooms’ containing herbaceous borders, grass beds, spring bulbs with a focus on colour combinations, fruit cage and orchard, vegetable garden, compost bays, 5 ponds (with Terrapin Rescue!), rose garden, greenhouse and lawns.
The day will start with a talk from Wendy about her career change from teacher to garden designer, how Laskey Farm has developed as a garden and any plans for the future. Then you will be out into the garden to look at the water features and hear from Howard how each pond is interconnected, and how the water is kept pure, despite all the inhabitants. If conditions allow there will be a demonstration of lifting and dividing pond plants, with discussion about why and how frequently this needs to be done.
Later you will look into the greenhouse at the papyrus and guppies, and perhaps tackle lifting and dividing that (depending on numbers). Finally you will be back out into the garden to look at grasses and tackle spring maintenance. Deciduous vs evergreen, best varieties, propagation etc.
This will be a busy and information packed day full of inspiration.
The cost of this visit is £15 per head. Please have weather appropriate clothing and bring your own packed lunch.
