Jupiter Artland is an award winning sculpture park set in the grounds of Bonnington House, a 17th Century Jacobean Manor just outside Edinburgh. Founded by Robert and Nicky Wilson in 2009, many famous artists are exhibited within the grounds including Anthony Gormley, Tracey Emin, Andy Goldsworth, Anish Kapoor and Cornelia Parker.
Thomas, the Head Gardener studied horticulture in Austria and Kew Gardens before working in private gardens in Oxfordshire and Gloucestershire, including Rockcliffe. He has been Head Gardener at Jupiter Artland for 5 years.
Thomas will give you an introduction to Jupiter Artland with coffee/tea beside Café Party at the entrance to the Sculpture park. Then you’ll head out and explore the grounds, passing some of the famous installations. Thomas will chat about the materials suitable for cuttings including cornus and salix varieties, forsythia and rubus species amongst others.
Back at the café, you will receive instruction on taking hardwood cuttings and you’ll be able to do this yourself with material already collected.
A tour of the Wilsons private garden which was designed by Arabella Lennox Boyd and Nicky Wilson will follow.
Lastly you will learn about softwood cuttings such as salvias, plectranthus and pelargoniums in the greenhouse.
Thomas will be happy to answer questions throughout the day. Everyone will be able to take a few cuttings home.
The cost for this specialist workshop, is £50 per WFGA member, £60 non WFGA member. Tea/coffee and biscuits will be provided but please bring your own packed lunch.
