Barnards Farm is owned and managed by the Christabella Charitable Trust. The 17 hectares of garden contain over 70 pieces of sculpture, woodland, ponds, a miniature railway, a dry garden, Japanese garden, parterre and Europe’s largest collection of crab apple trees. In addition, there is also a collection of classic cars.
The gardens have been run for over 20 years ago by Barry the Estate Manager assisted by Alex, the Head Gardener and a large team of volunteers. They have had two recent WRAG trainees.
The day will start with tea/coffee and a briefing on pleached hedges and their care by Alex, the Head Gardener. Then there will be a chance to practice on the two pleached hedges in the gardens, one pear and one lime. Refreshments and lunch will be taken under cover and there is ample parking.
Please bring loppers, secateurs and gloves. Note that ladders will be used on this Skills day. The cost of this Practical Skills Day is £25 and it open to members only.
