About the Venue:
Netherfields is a beautiful garden, in North Nibley, situated just to the north of Wotton-under-Edge, with beautiful views over the Severn Valley. The garden includes an orchard as well as a range of other fruit trees.
About the Tutor:
Martin Hayes is a skilled and expert tutor and author, who is part of Gloucestershire Orchards Trust, a leading Charity dedicated to the conservation and celebration of traditional orchards in Gloucestershire.
About the Practical Skills Day:
Martin will start with an introduction and talk about fruit tree pruning, describing methods of pruning with clear explanations of how and why. The group will move into the orchard and Martin will carry out a demonstration, before splitting attendees into groups and starting to practise pruning, all supported by Martin and the gardeners at Netherfield.
By the end of the day you will have learnt some key principles, practiced these under expert tuition, and pruned an orchard.
Timings:
9.30am – 4.00pm
Please note: the start time of 9.30am, is to make the most of daylight hours.
Refreshments:
All refreshments and lunch will be generously provided by our host, Margie Hoffnung.
Please Bring:
Attendees should bring secateurs, and if they have them, also loppers, both cleaned and sharpened. Please also bring gardening gloves and warm, weather appropriate outdoor clothing and footwear.
