Description
About the Venue:
Frog Lane Flower Farm is in North Nibley in the South Cotswolds near Wotton-under-Edge. At the Flower Farm, Margie and Sarah grow and propagate seasonal, sustainable cut flowers and foliage without chemicals, and only use materials that can be recycled or reused. As eco-florists they never use floral foam or single-use plastic. They take enormous care and pride in providing beautifully grown chemical-free flowers and foliage for local florists, wholesalers and private clients for weddings, funerals, private parties and events. Margie and Sarah are members of Flowers from the Farm.
About the Tutors:
Margie Hoffnung has decades of experience in horticulture, and recently established Frog Lane Flower Farm in Gloucestershire with her business partner Sarah Corston. Margie was previously a Conservation Officer and Historic Landscape Project Support Officer with the Gardens Trust. She has a horticulture degree from Writtle College and has worked at Westonbirt Arboretum and Highgrove. Margie completed an MSc in the Conservation of Historic Gardens and Cultural Landscapes at Bath and has been with the Garden History Society since 2013. Margie’s passion for growing is infectious and she is an excellent teacher, generous with her knowledge and skills.
About Our 4 Seasonal Workshops:
If you’re keen to learn about seed sowing, pricking out, propagating, taking cuttings, saving seeds and growing your own flowers for cutting, our set of 4 seasonal Workshops in 2026 (starting with Part 1: Seeds Sowing on 16th March), will show you how to do this successfully. The Workshops will be held at Frog Lane Flower Farm in March, April, May and September. The Workshops will take place either in the polytunnel or shade tunnel, or in Margie’s house just below. The exact location is of course entirely weather-dependent. We hope that by scheduling these Workshops monthly you’ll see the Flower Farm coming to life and appreciate just how quickly it changes as the year progresses. We are always happy to answer any questions about seasonal growing and this is likely to cover a very wide range of topics on pretty much anything that comes up in relation to the Flower Farm.
Part 1 Workshop: Seed Sowing – 16th March 2026
There will be an initial introduction to Frog Lane Flower Farm and you will be shown around the field and the polytunnel. Margie will explain the Flower Farm’s ethos and what they do. This first Workshop focusses on seed sowing for the year ahead and successful germination. The Flower Farm has a good selection of their own saved flower seeds suitable for cutting. The Workshops will allow attendees to choose 5 different varieties with additional generously filled packets available at £2 each if you cannot decide! Margie will provide all the materials and explain how to sow different sizes/kinds of seeds. Topics covered will include plant hygiene, watering, and pot and substrate selection.
Attendees will have at least five pots of seeds to take home and germinate. Margie will explain how to do this at home if you do not have a propagator.
