Gloucestershire – Propagation Workshop Part 2 of 4: Pricking Out 27/4/26

Price range: £50.00 through £70.00

Description

About the Venue:
Frog Lane Flower Farm is in North Nibley in the South Cotswolds near Wotton-under-Edge. At the Flower Farm, Margie and Sarah grow and propagate seasonal, sustainable cut flowers and foliage without chemicals, and only use materials that can be recycled or reused. As eco-florists they never use floral foam or single-use plastic. They take enormous care and pride in providing beautifully grown chemical-free flowers and foliage for local florists, wholesalers and private clients for weddings, funerals, private parties and events. Margie and Sarah are members of Flowers from the Farm.

About the Tutors:
Margie Hoffnung has decades of experience in horticulture, and recently established Frog Lane Flower Farm in Gloucestershire with her business partner Sarah Corston. Margie was previously a Conservation Officer and Historic Landscape Project Support Officer with the Gardens Trust. She has a horticulture degree from Writtle College and has worked at Westonbirt Arboretum and Highgrove. Margie completed an MSc in the Conservation of Historic Gardens and Cultural Landscapes at Bath and has been with the Garden History Society since 2013. Margie’s passion for growing is infectious and she is an excellent teacher, generous with her knowledge and skills.

About Our 4 Seasonal Workshops:
If you’re keen to learn about seed sowing, pricking out, propagating, taking cuttings, saving seeds and growing your own flowers for cutting, our set of 4 seasonal Workshops in 2026 (starting with Part 1: Seeds Sowing on 16th March, and Part 2: Pricking Out on 27th April), will show you how to do this successfully. The Workshops will be held at Frog Lane Flower Farm in March, April, May and September. The Workshops will take place either in the polytunnel or shade tunnel, or in Margie’s house just below. The exact location is of course entirely weather-dependent. We hope that by scheduling these Workshops monthly you’ll see the Flower Farm coming to life and appreciate just how quickly it changes as the year progresses. We are always happy to answer any questions about seasonal growing and this is likely to cover a very wide range of topics on pretty much anything that comes up in relation to the Flower Farm.

Part 2 Workshop: Pricking Out – 27th April 2026
This Workshop will focus on how to prick out the seedlings from last month. If you have pots of seeds successfully germinated from the previous session on 16th March, bring them back and you can work on your own baby plants. For those who don’t have any seedlings, we can provide a variety of seedlings to practice on. Participants will have trays/pots of seedlings to take home and grow on, ready for planting out.

All materials will be provided. Depending on the spring weather, we also should have some seedlings which are one stage further on from the babies you have just pricked out, and you will have an opportunity to practice planting a few in the flower farm. You will then feel confident to plant out your own seedlings at home when they are large enough.

You will be able to see how the flower farm has come on since your previous visit. There should be lots of tulips out and we will explain how we choose tulip varieties, how we plant them, what we look for in cut tulips, how to condition them etc.

In order to receive completely personalised attention, the numbers are strictly limited to a maximum of 10 participants per Workshop.
