Baxter’s Farm is the home of Judith Hann who has created the beautiful gardens over the last 20 years. These include a Herb garden, rose garden, sunken garden, box parterre, woodland area, rose pergolas, orchard, small lake and bog garden.  The large rose garden contains climbers, old roses, English roses, roses growing though trees and on pergolas.

Judith will be supported by Stella, (Her Head Gardener and former WRAGS trainee) and Katharine Sowerby, her current trainee.  Judith formerly worked in television, and is an authority on the growing and cooking of herbs, about which she has published a book.

The day will start with a short talk about ponds and bog gardens.  The group will then move on to renovate the small wildlife lake and bog garden, dividing and replanting the Hostas, Gunnera, Iris etc. and learning about the different bog plants, marginals, floating and deep water plants, and the importance of oxygenators.  The day will finish with a tour of the gardens.

The cost of this practical skills day is £30. Please bring shears, secateurs, fork and spade, plus wellies (and waders if you have them!) plus weather-appropriate clothing.  Please bring indoor shoes for use in the Barn.  A mask and hand sanitiser should also be brought with you in case it is required.  A packed lunch and hot/cold drinks need to be brought with you.
