About the Venue:
Hole Park has been owned by the Barham family for over 100 years and has a beautiful Queen Anne house set in approximately 15 acres of stunning gardens, surrounded by parkland. The estate sits in the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is home to a number of tenant farmers with a wide range of business activities as well as woodland industries. It opens at specific times throughout the year to the general public and for the NGS: www.holepark.com.
About the Tutor:
Quentin Stark has been the Head Gardener at Hole Park since 2000. He trained at Kingston Lacy in Dorset, then worked at Wimpole Hall, and then moved to the Crown Estate at Windsor where he worked in various gardens on the estate and spent 5 years in the propagation department, where he gained a passion for propagation. He is a galanthophile and keen propagator of Dahlias and bulbs.
About the Workshop:
The day will start at 9:30 am for tea and coffee in The Coach House tea rooms and then move onto the gardens at Hole Park and the green house.
By the end of the day the following propagation tips will be taught:
- Seed sowing of annuals and perennials, including Dahlias.
- Soft wood cuttings, semi ripe cuttings of tender perennials Salvia, Plectranthus, and hardwood cuttings of Salix and Cornus.
- Leaf cuttings – succulents.
- Root cuttings – Acanthus.
- Other types of propagation will be discussed including grafting, layering.
The Workshop will finish at around 3.00pm at which point attendees can then walk round the gardens until 4.00pm should they wish to do so.

Tea and coffee will be provided.
Food for lunch is available from The Coachouse Tea Rooms. If bringing a packed lunch please note that these cannot be consumed within the confines of The Coach House Tea Rooms.
