Description
Wyndcliffe Court House and garden was built in the ‘Arts and Craft’ style in 1920. The garden retains its original features and is listed as an exceptional garden in the ‘Italianate’ Arts and Crafts style. A paved terrace has steps down to a lily pond with dolphin fountain, and further stone walls link a summerhouse to the different levels of the steeply sloping site. The rose garden was designed by Sarah Price and planted in 2018. The garden has extended interest between April to October with bulbs and a large variety of shrubs, climbers and choice plants. The gardens also feature ancient sculpted topiary, a sunken garden, and woodland. The walled garden has fruit trees and a new Platinum Jubilee border of lavender, which will be the subject matter for this fabulous Lavender Pruning & Harvesting Practical Skills Day.
Participants will be taught how to properly clean and sharpen secateurs ready for pruning the lavender. Sarah will do a short talk on the different types of lavender as she has an extensive knowledge and has researched extensively over the years in order to plan for this planting scheme. Participants will then be given a demonstration of pruning techniques, while having the proper methods explained in detail, including why we do what we do. Supervision will be given at first but then participants can work at their own pace to prune and harvest the lavender. Participants can take away the lavender they harvest on the day to be enjoyed at home. Lunch will be at about 12.30pm (please bring your own) and work will continue afterwards.
Sarah Clay is a self taught gardener with decades of experience. She is excited to share her knowledge and experience with those that attend this event.
