We will start the day with some theory behind how to create a wildflower meadow which will include discussions around seed mixes, best time of year to create a meadow, the steps it takes to establish one, and how to maintain a meadow going forward.
We will then put the theory into practice by doing some practical ground preparation. This will involve a range of hand tools and machinery such as forks, spade, strimmers and a rotavator.
Finally we will measure out the seed mix and then cast the seed onto the prepared area. This is a good opportunity to discuss the chosen seed mix and what species we can include to out compete grasses. We will also learn the correct technique to cast seed.
The day will end with a brief chat on annual care for a meadow and other ways of adding to the swathe such as plug plants or wildflower turf. It will also be an opportunity to ask any final questions.
The Cost of this workshop is £55 for members, £65 for non-members. Please bring a packed lunch.
