About the Venue:
Stagshaw House in Corbridge, Northumberland, is a Grade II historic house with extensive gardens and views across the Tyne Valley. The 4 acre garden and adjoining woodland has a mix of formal terraced gardens, rose collection, victorian kitchen garden, daffodil meadow and wild garden.
About the Tutor:
For over 15 years, Justine Holdsworth has been teaching the secrets of willow weaving. Located at The Workshop in Whitley Bay, she hosts workshops and weaving get-togethers which have become a fixture in the weaving community across the North East.
About the Workshop:
This Workshop is suitable for anyone wanting to learn the skill of willow weaving with step-by-step instruction from experts. Justine will be your guide through this historic craft that connects you to generations past. Suitable for total beginners and advanced alike. During the day, you’ll make your very own willow obelisk, suitable for sweet peas, beans or other climbing plants. Using sustainable, locally sourced willow grown and harvested from a plot in the stunning Northumberland National Park, attendees will learn about the different varieties of willow used and the different traditional weaves used, and will learn the tips and tricks of the trade.
Attendees will take home their own handmade, unique willow obelisk for the garden. All tools required for the day are included.
The day will also include a short tour of Stagshaw House grounds and gardens – weather dependent.
