Thenford gardens and arboretum are privately owned by Lord and Lady Heseltine. They comprise 70 acres including over 3000 varieties of trees and shrubs, plus a 2 acre 18th century walled garden, large sculpture garden, extensive herbaceous borders, medieval fishponds and water garden. The gardens are rarely open to the public so this is a wonderful opportunity to not only develop some excellent skills, but also to enjoy a guided tour of the garden with Senior Gardener Emma Thick.
Emma is responsible for the Walled Garden and many glasshouses and will start the day with an introduction to propagating Snowdrops by twin-scaling, and demonstrate how to take leaf-cuttings from Streptocarpus and Saintpaulia. You will then work as a group to complete the tasks, and after lunch you will have an opportunity to see the gardens.
The cost of this Skills day is £25. Refreshments are included but please bring a packed lunch. You will also need secateurs, gloves and weather appropriate clothing.
