Pontypool – How to use Ornamental Grasses in your Garden – SOLD OUT

£50.00£60.00

Description

Roger Lloyd has built up knowledge and experience through many years planting and managing gardens where he has lived. In that time, he has developed some specific interests, one of which is grasses and he has built up knowledge using a wide range of grasses in beds and borders at Highfield. He gardens, researches, and gives talks on plants and their place in the garden, and importantly encourages us all to give things a go. His enthusiasm is infectious.

Highfields Farm, owned by Roger and Jenny Lloyd, is a beautiful garden, in a wonderful setting with views toward the Black mountains. The garden is full of full of a wide range of borders with exuberant planting incorporating sun and shade, damp and dry, both new and established. The day will start with some basics about the biology of grasses and the different varieties available, how they grow and how to design with, manage and propagate them. We will then move into the garden and Roger will talk about how to use grasses while showing us the many different types in the garden that have been ‘tried and tested’ and grown successfully. Discussion will include specimen grasses, matrix planting, screening, under-storey planting and how to use grasses to extend the season with colour and texture throughout autumn and into winter. This workshop is timed to catch a range of grasses at their best, and is a wonderful opportunity to spend a day at Highfield, learning in a beautiful garden, which recently won The Nation’s Favourite Garden in Wales and the Borders in The English Garden magazine poll. Full course notes will be provided, including Roger’s recommended favourite grasses.

The cost of this workshop is £50 per member, £60 per non-member. Please bring a packed lunch, tea/coffee and cake will be provided.
