Scotland – Visit to Portmore House

The owner, Mrs Reid, has used her flair to create a beautiful walled garden of rooms, each immaculately decorated with great attention to detail. It includes rose beds, a potager, long herbaceous borders, a pleached lime walk & other surprises. The more formal areas are coloured-themed with clever use of mirrored and repeat planting. The centrepiece here is the beautifully restored greenhouses with the original Victorian Italianate grotto. Behind the walled garden is a very productive kitchen garden. The more natural areas further from the house include a mature planted water garden with woods beyond which blend perfectly into their surrounds.

Ken Kennedy, the Head Gardener, has a wealth of experience and knowledge and has worked with a long line of WRAGS trainees.

There will be a Walk and Talk with the Head Gardener & the Garden Owner, Mrs Chrissie Reid, & a plant sale. Tea and cakes will be provided after the tour.

The cost is £10 per member and £12 for non members.  Please bring weather appropriate clothing.
