Description
Old Down Estate has extensive grounds that are open to the public and have wonderful views over the Severn Estuary. The gardens include a Victorian Walled Garden, herbaceous borders, and an old fruit orchard. The gardens include a Victorian Walled Garden, herbaceous borders, and an old fruit orchard. There are over 300 roses, the majority of which are planted around the house in a number of beds. They are mostly shrub roses, both old and new varieities as well as some climbers. This will be wonderful opportunity to practise rose pruning, led by the Estate Manager Dan Bennett and gardener and ex WRAG trainee, Jenni Barrett, who will show us what we are doing, and we will work in pairs.
There will be an opportunity to explore the rest of the gardens.
Bring a packed lunch. Tea and coffee and cake provided. Please wear appropriate warm outdoor clothing, and footwear, and bring gardening gloves and secateurs (Cleaned & sharpened). Loppers will be provided.
