Parsonage Farm is a major garden in a beautiful setting developed over 20 years with a fruit theme and many unusual plants. Formally laid out on a grand scale with long vistas; C18 walled garden with borders in apricot, orange, scarlet and crimson; topiary walk; pleached lime allée; tulip tree avenue; rose borders; large vegetable garden with trained fruit; turf amphitheatre; lake; informal autumn shrubbery and jungle walk.
This Practical Skills Day will cover the winter pruning of roses (covering shrub, modern shrub, Hybrid Musk, climbing, and rambling roses) at Parsonage Farm. After instruction/a talk on winter pruning of roses and pruning techniques by Glen, Head Gardener at Parsonage Farm, there will be the opportunity to prune the roses. There may also be opportunity to prune the pleached lime allée. Please note that small step ladders will be used for the climbing roses. There will also be the opportunity to enjoy a tour of the gardens.
The cost of this Skills day is £25. Refreshments are included (Please bring a mug) and please bring a packed lunch. You will also need clean and sharp secateurs, loppers, gloves and weather appropriate clothing. If you have safety goggles please bring those too.
