Description
David Warden has held a national collection of heleniums since 2018, having built his collection since 2005. Alongside his wife Kim, they moved to a walled garden in 2015 giving them more space and a blank canvas on which to build their collection. Tweedhill Garden was an overgrown wilderness which took seven years to rescue, but now is home to their National Collections of Heleniums, Miscanthus and Veronicastrum.
The garden featured on BBC Gardeners’ World in 2022, and is an attractive and inspiring walled garden with informal, naturalistic planting, dominated by long flowering perennials sitting alongside the plant collections. Salvias, Agastache, Veronicastrum, Alstroemerias and Sanguisorbas, Echinacea, Aster amellus and Bistorta all deliver striking visual impact from June to November.
The garden has been featured in almost all national gardening magazines, and David and Kim and were finalists in the Gardeners’ World magazine Garden of the Year competition in 2019.
On arrival, David will give an introduction to the garden and take members on a guided tour of the extensive national plant collections including Heleniums, Miscanthus and Veronicastrum. Members will then have the opportunity to take time to view the gardens at their leisure.
Attendees can take the opportunity to call on David’s expertise and ask any questions they might have about propagation and growing a national plant collection.
