Description
Microbz is located in rural Wiltshire, surrounded by wildlife rich meadows. By passion and profession, Sue Allen, Co-Founder, is the gardening expert within the Microbz team. Her garden is her happy place and it’s where you’re most likely to find her. Inspired by her father, Sue has a lifelong passion for gardening. She completed a Higher Diploma in Horticulture at Lackham College in 1995 and is a member of Bremhill Vales Farming Group, a local farming cluster. But, her real expertise is self-taught. It comes from the many hours that she’s spent creating her own garden – reading, exchanging ideas with fellow enthusiasts and importantly, testing, learning and watching her own ideas grow. When Sue and Jeff arrived at Naish House more than 20 years ago it was a horticultural desert. Under Sue’s direction they’ve transformed it into a rich landscape complete with a stunning pond, wildflower meadow, vegetable patch and orchard, all grown using microbes.
The Workshop begins with a presentation by Sue explaining how microbes work, what they contribute to soil and plant health, and showing evidence of their effectiveness in root, leaf and fruit growth. There will be a discussion on composting, and the use and benefits of microbes.
Following on from lunch, in small groups we will take a tour of the Mibrobz Brewery with Sue to see the initial stages of where the ferments are made. We will learn about the process of harvesting the soil microbes, and then walk through the surrounding meadow with discussion on rebalancing soil biology and different ways to do this in a garden. You will also have a chance to look at active soil microbes under a microscope.
