Description

Ashburnham Place is home to a serving community of Christians from many traditions. Set in 220 acres of ancient woodland, ornamental gardens and lakes. The gardens are cared for using sustainable gardening principles and are home to rare wildlife, wildflowers and birds. The gardens include herbaceous borders, woodland, kitchen gardens and a café with a newly renovated Orangery.

Jay Ashworth is the Ornamental Gardens Manager at Ashburnham. She has a Masters in Horticulture and a wealth of experience, having worked in the gardens for over 10 years. She has a fabulous gardening team, including a number of volunteers and a WRAGS Trainee.

This practical skills day will focus on the renovation of an area in the West Garden at Ashburnham. We will be renovating and bringing new perspective to this area of historical shrubbery and tree borders. As well as doing some weeding and clearing, there will be some formative pruning, shaping and tidying. We will also be doing some plant identification and taking cuttings too. The day will include a tour of the gardens. 10am: Arrival, tea/coffee and tour of the gardens

11am: Instruction/talk by Jay followed by practical session

1pm: A complimentary hot lunch will be included. To be taken with the onsite community.

2pm: Practical session

3.30pm: Depart

Please bring: Clean and sharp secateurs, a small trowel and a spade and fork (if you have them), suitable footwear and gloves for pruning. Warm layers of clothing and wet weather gear if necessary.

The cost of this PSD is £30.
