Monmouthshire – Composting Workshop

£65.00£75.00

Description

Nant-y- Bedd is an organically managed forest garden, in the Black Mountain, 30 minutes from Abergavenny. The workshop will be led by Sue Mabberley in the magical setting of her garden at Nant-y- Bedd, where she has gardened organically for many years, alongside a career delivering local practical and environmental training. Nant-y-Bedd is RHS partner garden.

Composting is a key element of organic growing, and transferring waste products from the kitchen and garden into microbially active compost to enrich the soil is a satisfying process. The morning session will be spent exploring the theory behind the process of successful compost making, and different approaches including traditional bins, and how to make a compost windrow. In the afternoon we will move into the garden to make a compost windrow and tour the garden to see the composting in action; bins including leaf mould at different stages, and the use of compost and leaf mould in the garden and potting compost mixes. Sue will cover – why we should all make compost – the basics of controlled aerobic composting including material suitable for composting – how to sort out a compost heap that is not working – how to speed up the process.

This is a fabulous opportunity to spend a day immersed in this beautiful forest environment.

The cost of this event is £65 for members and £75 for non-members. Please bring a packed lunch.  Tea/coffee and cake will be provided.  Please wear sensible shoes and weather appropriate clothing.

Please note the directions on Nant-y-Bedd website.
